Friday 20th March: Addis Ababa Arrival – Welcome to Ethiopia

Touch down in Addis Ababa at your convenience, the pulsing heart of one of Africa’s oldest nations. You’ll be met by our local team at the airport and transferred to our hotel. That evening, meet the Binsky team tour guide and fellow travellers for a full briefing. We’ll walk you through the essentials – what to avoid, what to embrace, and what you absolutely must experience – setting the tone for a bold journey through one of the world’s most compelling destinations.
Head out for dinner and enjoy your first taste of Ethiopian flavours and spices.

Saturday 21st March: Addis Ababa – Turmi

A quick flight to Jinka, then take a scenic 2 hour drive to Turmi – the gateway to the Omo Valley’s southern tribal heartlands.
Hamar Hamlet Village – we roll into the heart of Hamar tribes, one of the region’s most iconic tribes. Here, women have prominent cheekbones and wear heavy copper necklaces with intricate handmade beads. It’s not a performance, it’s just life.
You’ll have the choice to either camp in a Hamar village under southern stars or in a fixed lodge at Buska.

Sunday 22nd March: Turmi – Omorate – Hamar

Today we push further off the map as we drive into lands where time moves differently. Stopping at:
Dassanech Territory – a scorched cradle of humanity, just off the banks of Lake Turkana. This is where the oldest human bones were dug from earth, proof that, somewhere in your DNA, this dust runs deep. Wander through the villages of the Dassanech nomads, where tradition holds firm. In their villages, women grind grain on stone, and cook over open flames.
Dimi Cerimony – we’ll witness a rite of passage that blurs the line between myth and manhood. Its purpose is to honour and bless the father’s daughter for future marriage and conception. Expect animal-hide capes, faces streaked with ochre, and dust-churning dances that shake the ground. Elders chanting blessings, spirits are invoked, and somewhere there, a new generation is born.
Korcho Village – the Kara people live here, high on a bluff overlooking the Omo. Known for its adorning flowers as well as its creative and decorative body chalk painting, many of the Kara women have pierced lips and inserted nails and pins. They’re among the smallest tribes in the valley, but their visual packs a punch.
Enjoy coffee in a traditional hut, listen to local stories, and talk with elders and tribal women.

Monday 23rd March: Turmi – Arbore – Dimeka – Jinka

We leave Turmi behind and loop through some of the valley’s most vivid snapshots.
Arbore Village – tucked into the Weito lowlands beneath the shadow of Mount Buska. The Arbore village is a place where tradition and beauty collide. The Arbore women have extremely dark skin and strong features. Before marriage, it’s tradition for women to shave their heads, a bold and powerful symbol of transformation. They wear dark robes, colourful beads, and their huts are fabricated from tree branches.
Dimeka Market – pure sensory chaos. Tribes from all over the valley converge here to trade, flirt, argue, and show off. You’ll see body paint, towering hairstyles, and more cowrie shells than you’ve ever imagined.
Keyafer – home to the famed Benna boys on stilts. Yes, you read that right. Teenagers strut through the market perched on handmade stilts they’ve mastered since childhood. Not just a play, it’s a show of pride.

Tuesday 24th March: Jinka – Mursi – Addis Ababa

Before we head back to the capital by flight, we venture into the brushlands
Mago National Park – the Mursi are often defined by the lip plates worn by some women, but there’s much more behind the stares. Body scarification, cattle culture, and deeply spiritual traditions shape their world. Lunch provided.

Wednesday 25th March: Addis Ababa – Bahir Dar

We fly north to Bahir Dar, Ethiopia’s lake city on the edge of Lake Tana.
Lake Tana – cruise the lake’s murky waters to reach monasteries tucked on green islands, filled with ancient manuscripts and vivid murals. If we’re lucky, a hippo or two might break the surface.
Uda Kidane Monastery – this monastery is renowned for its vibrant frescoes that splash colour across ancient walls and a peaceful courtyard that invites quiet reflection.
Azwa Maryam Monastery – we step onto a rocky islet to explore this 15th century monastery, where ancient murals and profound stillness come together to create a deeply moving experience.
Blue Nile Falls – you’ll hear it before you see it. Locally known as Tis Issat (“smoking water”), a dramatic cascade surrounded by lush vegetation. The cool mist and roaring sound create an unforgettable sensory experience.

Thursday 26th March: Bahir Dar – Gondar

We drive through Ethiopia’s fertile highlands to Gondar, often called the Camelot of Africa
Royal Enclosure (Fasil Ghebbi) – a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring stone castles, palaces, and fortifications built by Emperor Fasilidas and his successors during the 17th and 18th centuries.
Debre Berhan Selassie Church – renowned for its stunning ceiling adorned with hundreds of winged angels painted with exquisite detail and vibrant colours, one of Ethiopia’s most celebrated religious art sites.
Overnight in Taye Belay Hotel or Goha Hotel with dinner included.

Friday 27th March: Gondar

Today we dive deeper into Gondar’s royal legacy.
Fasildas Bath – a sacred pool used annually during the Timket Epiphany festival for the ritual blessing of water.
Empress Mentewab’s Palace – crumbling arches swallowed by jungle. This once-grand complex, belonged to Ethiopia’s most powerful woman. The silence here is thick, broken only by birds and the wind scraping the ruins.
Kuskuam Church – not many make it here, that’s part of the charm. Perched on a hilltop with panoramic views of the city, known for its peaceful atmosphere and beautiful murals.

Saturday 28th March: Simien Mountains National Park

We’re road-tripping again, this time to the Simien Mountains Park, a site famed for breathtaking landscapes.
Simien Mountains National Park – a UNESCO World Heritage Site famed for its dramatic escarpments, deep valleys, and endemic wildlife. Enjoy panoramic views of Ethiopia’s “Roof of Africa”. You’ll hike trails surrounded by jagged peaks, and spot unique species such as Gelada Baboons, Walia Ibex, and the elusive Ethiopian wolf. Picnic lunch provided.
Return to Gondar for dinner and overnight

Sunday 29th March: Gondar – Lalibela

A short flight drops us into Lalibela, where rock becomes religion.
Bete Medhane Alem – towering and immense, this church commands attention, a true giant carved from stone that leaves visitors in awe.

Bete Maryam – vivid murals wrap the stone walls, telling ancient stories in ochre, cobalt, and soot.
Bete Golgotha – one of the holiest of the eleven, believed to house King Lalibela’s tomb. This church remains an active place of worship and pilgrimage, with priests in colourful robes chanting prayers in ancient Ge’ez

Monday 30th March: Lalibela

We continue explorations of Lalibela’s spiritual heart.
Bete Giyorgis – also known as St. George, carved entirely from bedrock in the shape of a Greek cross and considered a masterpiece of medieval Ethiopian architecture.
Bete Emmanuel – step inside and be hit by walls alive with colourful murals. Every brushstroke tells stories that have echoed through centuries.
Bete Gabriel – hidden away in stone, this church feels like a secret kept for centuries. Quiet, mysterious and full of stories.
Lunch included in town
Bete Rafael – known for its frescoes, this church offers a moment to pause and connect with centuries of faith and tradition. Less visited, more haunting.
Asheton Maryam Monastery – perched on a cliff with sweeping views of the surrounding mountains and valley. You’ll learn about the life of monks living in isolation here, practicing ancient Ethiopian Orthodox Christian traditions.

Tuesday 31st March: Lalibela – Addis Ababa

Back to Addis Ababa for one final round, with an afternoon at leisure.
Dive into colourful markets alive with treasures, soak up stories at vibrant cultural sites, or simply relax and recharge at your hotel. Addis Ababa hums with a contagious energy.
End the day with a dinner featuring traditional dishes, honey wine, live music, and dance that reflects Ethiopia’s cultural tapestry.

Wednesday 1st April: Addis Ababa – Departure

For those ongoing onto our Mogadishu tour we’ll depart Addis at 2:45pm and arrive into Mogadishu 5:00pm on flight ET378. Flight not included in tour cost.
Still time for a few final stops.
National Museum of Ethiopia – start at the beginning, literally. This is where you’ll meet Lucy, the world’s most famous early human, along with royal regalia, ancient manuscripts, and artifacts that chart Ethiopia’s deep, complex past.
Tomoca Café – crowded and steeped in legacy. Addis’s oldest coffeehouse pours rich Italian-roasted Ethiopian brews in a space that smells like heaven.
Merkato – buckle up for sensory overload in Africa’s largest open-air market. Dive into the chaos, or head to Minalesh Tera, where artisans fashion tools from scrap metal.
Enjoy a final farewell dinner before transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
