In March, 2017, I had the wonderful opportunity to play BRG Legend Hill Golf Resort which is located about 20km north of Hanoi (close to the Noi Bai Airport). It’s one of the most beautiful courses I’ve ever played in my life.
Just look at the greenery in this photo!
Recently opening in 2015, Legend Hill is an 18 hole Jack Nicklaus course that is taking the Vietnam golf scene by storm. It’s actually the very first Jack Nicklaus course in Vietnam, and it has already been rated among the best and most challenging tracks in the country. The course boasts two unique greens per hole – one green being more challenging than the other – depending on your handicap.
The golf clubhouse sits on top of a giant hill that over looks the entire 18 holes and the mountains in the background.
How stunning is this view?
When I checked in, I was treated with respect and lots of smiles. I must admit the rental club set they gave me wasn’t the best, but nonetheless, I was happy to be out playing.
I didn’t score well beacuse it was very windy outside and my rental clubs were too long and stiff, but the beautiful green course made took all my worries away! Long and thin fairways, fast greens, and lots and lots of water. One of the par 5s had water running along the left edge of the entire fairway from tee box to green. If you pulled it or hooked it, your ball was wet (guilty).
My caddie was a girl about my age, who spoke better English than most, and gave me some great company during the round.
For me, the most impressive part of Legend Hill were the greens. As I mentioned earlier, there are 36 greens on the course — 2 for every hole. They change up the greens each day to make it more or less challenging. The greens speeds were fast, but always stayed true to their roll. I putted better than normal, rolling in several 10+ foot par putts (but unfortunately no birdies).
In conclusion, Legend Hill is one of the best and most well-kept courses in Vietnam and I would absolutely play there again. If you ever come to Hanoi, try to get out and enjoy!
